Tucked away in a vibrant residential corner of Chelsea, The Chelsea Ram — part of the Young’s Pub Company — has been completely reimagined through an extensive refurbishment that breathes new life into this much-loved local pub. Inside, craftsmanship and comfort create a space that’s timeless, welcoming, and unmistakably Young’s.
Whether it’s a family dinner, relaxed drinks with friends, or a private celebration, The Chelsea Ram offers an impressive selection of cask ales, wines, and spirits, alongside a seasonal British menu.
The aim was to restore the essence of the traditional London pub to a once-tired space that had lost its character and curb appeal. The new design moved away from heavily painted finishes and large floral upholstery, opting instead for a more authentic material palette — dark-stained timbers, rich leathers, antique brass, and stained glass.
A key part of the brief was to transform the external façade, which had previously faded into its townhouse surroundings. Deep, rich paint tones, bold new signage, and feature lighting were introduced to give The Chelsea Ram a strong and distinct identity, fully aligned with the traditional yet luxurious aesthetic found within.
Guests are welcomed by a beautifully crafted main bar — the true centrepiece of the pub. The standout feature is a bespoke antique brass gantry spanning the full length of the counter, with twin-level bottle shelving and integrated lighting that brings a sense of theatre and distinction. The new back bar display, inspired by classic joinery, features fluted pilasters, decorative cornices, and antique mirrored panels.
The area in front of the bar has been redesigned for comfort and atmosphere, featuring a mix of high stools and sofa-style seating upholstered in rich leathers with fluted detailing and antique brass studwork. Beyond the main bar, smaller, more intimate seating areas create a sense of discovery, each defined by dark timber panelling, warm paint tones, sumptuous leathers in tan, burgundy, green, and navy, and softly glowing light. Luxurious wallpapers, stained-glass screens, and a layered lighting scheme complete the inviting, timeless environment.
Two new feature booths provide the ultimate cosy retreat, framed with draped curtains and illuminated by glass pendant lights. Curved granite tables with brass edging add a final touch of elegance to these snug alcoves.
Upstairs, the newly reimagined Ashburnham Room — a private dining and events space — continues the traditional aesthetic in refined style. The refurbished bar features a stained timber front with burgundy leather panels and brass stud detailing, complemented by patterned wallpaper, dado-height panelling, and rich drapes. The space is softly lit with dimmable pendants and wall lights, creating the ideal atmosphere for private dinners, long lunches, and special celebrations.
