A London stay with history, style and a great location for Young's

Fusion By Design have been involved for a number of years with different design elements at the Brook Green Hotel, our most recent is the full refurbishment of the guest bedrooms.

THE BRIEF

The Brook Green Hotel is a relaxed, dining and drinking venue. With a dramatic basement bar called Smith’s and 17 guest bedrooms above, the previously refurbished ground floor spaces are influenced by the Four Blue plaques of Brook Green and their classic pursuits of music, writing and art. In 2019 Fusion By Design were asked to once again return to the venue and provide interior design services for the refurbishment of the guest bedrooms.

The brief from the client team at Youngs and Co.’s was to bring the classical influence of the public areas into the bedrooms so that the rooms reflected the relaxed style of the lower floors. We looked to bring into the scheme accent fabrics in Silver Studio style prints synonymous with Brook Green and William Morris one of the contemporaries.

THE DESIGN

The suite bedrooms looked to provide more bespoke accommodation with individually designed wallpapers featuring above the headboard wall and unique stronger colour palette’s of deep ruby and mustard, to differentiate the rooms from the standard accommodation.

Many of the rooms received new carpets and all of them were fully redecorated, in soft warm greys and blues. All the loose furniture items were reupholstered, and new scatter cushions and blinds were provided using the William Morris prints from Morris & Co.

The works for all the room refurbishments were undertaken whilst the hotel was in operation and were phased and sequenced to allow minimal disruption to the hotel guests. The scheme was well received and provided a much-needed refresh to the hotel which we have continued to return to with our design input over the years.

The dining room echo’s a continental brasserie; soft, stylish and inviting with a modern atmosphere. A new kitchen pass has been provided which brings theatre to the space. Surrounded by a bespoke musical themed frieze, the button back fixed seating sits in front of mirrored wall panels’ with the fluted seat back’s in leathers and linens. A chevron oak floor compliments the marble of the kitchen pass area. The monochrome of writing paper inspires the tiled floor areas and the artwork of the dining room.

Relaxed and comfortable, the bar provides a variety of seating options; window seating to watch the world go by; mid height stools in front of the bar counter and a mixture of fixed and loose seats. With accent fabrics in Silver Studio style prints, synonymous with Brook Green and one of their contemporaries, William Morris.

The original back bar was stripped back to the original timbers, the bar front is painted in a contrasting deep ruby and the bar counter is bold and beautiful. A newly formed area adjacent to the bar has an exposed brick wall and elements of hanging faux planting, bringing the greenery of ‘Brook Green’ inside.
