Rey’s - French name for Fox

Rey’s is a new restaurant brand that focuses on preparing and serving rotisserie cooked chicken influenced by French cooking techniques with eastern flavours. The first site opened in Cambridge within an impressive Grade II listed building.

THE BRIEF

The design concept has been driven by initial research and brand development and focuses on the brand name Rey’s (Rey being short for Renard which is the French name for Fox) and the food on offer – Chicken! The restaurant interior combines a simplistic and refined selection of materials and finishes throughout. Their application and detailing is influenced by the crisp, clean and subtle aesthetic evident in Scandinavian design. It was a key driver that the restaurant had a fresh edge, something that would move the brand away from the industrial inspired interiors that many other restaurant brands have become renowned for.

THE DESIGN

The space is split over two levels, the ground floor and basement. To the heart of the ground floor is the open kitchen/rotisserie area. This open space allows the cooking and preparation of the chicken to be fully showcased, it was important that customers could see this to fully appreciate what they were ordering is “Fresh”.

The basement is a unique space with very limited headroom, it was essential that the design of the basement was connected to the ground floor and is used to facilitate further covers.
